Rather Be Canicrossing (RBC)

Running Community Dogs

A friendly, welcoming site for a community canicross group — built to reflect the low-barrier, social spirit of the club and make it easy for new runners (and their dogs) to get involved.

The Brief

Rather Be Canicrossing is a community running club for people and their dogs, based across the Cotswolds and Gloucestershire. Like many community clubs, their online presence didn’t reflect how friendly and accessible the group actually is — the brief was to build a site that felt like an invitation rather than a wall of information, while still covering the practical details people need before turning up to their first session.

The Approach

I built a clean, full-width WordPress site structured around the club’s actual ethos — low-cost membership, certified coaching, and a genuinely social atmosphere. The homepage leads with that friendliness directly, rather than burying it under club structure or rules.

A dedicated Membership section was rewritten to make clear that people can try a session before committing — removing the biggest barrier to a first visit. The site also gives proper visibility to the club’s certified canicross coaches, which had previously been an underused trust signal.

Throughout, the copy was tightened and restructured to flow as a narrative — from “who we are” to “why you’ll fit in” to “how to join” — rather than reading as a set of disconnected sections.

The Result

Rather Be Canicrossing now has a site that does a better job of representing the community it actually has — friendly, low-cost, and welcoming to complete beginners. The clearer structure around membership and coaching gives prospective members the confidence to turn up to their first session knowing what to expect.
